In the last 15-20 years, waxing has become extremely popular in the USA. In other countries such as Brazil, waxing is a much older method of hair removal. It is where the term bikini Brazilian came from. The two types of wax that are available are soft and hard wax.

Soft wax pioneered the waxing industry. With soft wax, it is generally unsafe to apply and remove more then once in a single area – usually you have one chance to remove as many hairs as possible in order to maintain the health of the skin. As a result, it can be a much more aggressive form of hair removal and can easily burn the skin when applied more then once. It is also applied with a wooden spatula, but is removed with paper or cloth strips.

More similar to hard wax, we also have sugaring. The common formula to create sugaring wax is a combination of lemon, water and sugar. It removes the hair from the root by laying the sticky paste on the skin and is removed by a pulling motion. The process is repeated as many times as required until the hair is removed versus hard wax which is generally applied and removed only once or twice. Another effect of sugaring, is the sticky residue usually left on your skin. Many people like the idea of sugaring, as it seems more natural, but there are no proven benefits for the skin or body.

Due to these short comings, hard wax became the preference for most professionals due to its superior benefits.  A good quality hard wax is much more gentle and safer for the skin, causing less hair breakage. It allows for customization in application based on temperature – which makes it great for all hair and skin types. Due to these benefits, WonderWax uses the best quality hard wax! It is applied with a wooden tongue depressor, and is removed on its own – without the use of paper and/or cloth strips.
